Booking.com and Web Summit Expand Commitment to Women in Tech

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – 24 APRIL 2018 – Today Booking.com, one of the world’s largest travel e-commerce companies and a digital technology leader, announced a global partnership with Web Summit. Together they will host a dedicated ‘Women in Tech’ networking and mentoring program at the flagship Web Summit event, as well as initiatives at affiliated events Collison and RISE in 2018. This exclusive collaboration continues Booking.com and Web Summit’s efforts to redress the under-representation of women in technology by creating more opportunities for women to enter, advance and thrive in the sector.

Booking.com will host the first of a number of networking initiatives for women at the Booking.com Women in Tech lounge at Collision 2018, being held in New Orleans, USA, from April 30th-May 3rd, 2018. One of America’s leading technology conferences, Collison brings together CEOs of the world’s fastest growing startups and Fortune 500 companies, alongside leading investors and media. Booking.com CEO Gillian Tans will also participate in a panel on “Sustainability in Big Business”, sharing her insights on the role of major companies in furthering global sustainability and ethical practices.
Web Summit 2018, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, from November 5th-8th, will be the focal point of the global partnership and will feature an expanded ‘Women in Tech Mentor Program’, following the success of the inaugural initiative at last year’s event. The Web Summit 2017 women’s mentoring program attracted nearly 200 participants, with 60 high-profile mentors from across the tech sector, including Gillian Tans and other Booking.com executives.

RISE 2018 will take place on 9th-12th July 2018 in Hong Kong and is the largest tech conference in Asia. The event attracts more than 15,000 attendees each year from over 100 countries. Booking.com will host the Women in Tech networking lounge at the event.
“We are excited to partner with Web Summit again this year to build on the strong demand and engagement we saw in 2017 and to continue our efforts in driving gender diversity in tech at a global level. Recent data suggests that 90% of women working in technology across the world have experienced gender bias in the workplace and this, coupled with the lack of mentors (48%) and female role models (42%), are the top three obstacles preventing women from choosing to advance their careers in tech,” said Gillian Tans, CEO of Booking.com.

“We are expanding our partnership with Web Summit with marquee events in Europe, North America and Asia to continue the conversations about gender diversity and to support women through mentoring and providing more opportunities for them to collaborate, network and share experiences. This global partnership will give us another platform to help pivot gender inequalities and gaps in the male-dominated tech workplace and encourage more women from across the world to become positive role models for others.”
Web Summit runs the world’s most highly regarded technology events which bring together world leaders, Fortune 500 companies, tech giants and groundbreaking startups to examine and celebrate the latest advances in technology.
Paddy Cosgrave, CEO and co-founder of Web Summit, said: “Web Summit run the most prominent technology events in the world and we are committed to driving a positive change in the industry. We launched our women in tech initiative three years ago to increase the number of women participating at our events around the world. This commitment to change resulted in a female/male gender ratio at Web Summit of 42% / 58% for the last two years.
“We are pleased to partner again with Booking.com to further this important cause and provide a platform for raising awareness about gender equality in the tech industry globally. The partnership with Booking.com will help us provide further opportunities for female tech talent attending our events to network with and learn from some of the most successful tech entrepreneurs in the industry today.”

MANILA: 20 November 2014 – Rebranding today as Hotel Jen Manila, the Traders Hotel Manila is the first to welcome the Hotel Jen brand in the Philippines. Catering to a new ‘Jeneration’ of independently minded business and leisure travellers, the brand will launch quickly with ten Hotel Jens opening in major cities in Asia Pacific by March 2015.

The Hotel Jen brand is inspired by the virtual persona Jen, a professional hotelier who loves life, travel and the adventure of discovering new places. Hotel Jen takes care of guests with efficiency and care, while also giving them informed access to the best a particular destination has to offer. The concept of Hotel Jen provides travellers greater flexibility to blend the boundaries between business and leisure.

Mr. Greg Dogan, president and CEO of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, said “The rebrand of Traders Hotel Manila to Hotel Jen Manila is another milestone for our new Hotel Jen brand. “True to the new brand and brand values, the Hotel Jen Manila team are embracing the changing demands of today’s more independently minded travellers; who seek simple pleasures, easy efficiencies and the opportunity to indulge their sense of adventure. “We have been looking forward to introducing our hotel concept in Manila for our existing and new customers who share a ‘millennial’ mind-set and seek fuss-free simplicity when traveling for leisure or business.”

Hotel Jen Manila will bring an intuitive service attitude and relaxed, friendly style to the diverse collection of existing and new mid-range hotels situated in the best locations in Asia Pacific.

Mr. Gordon Aeria, general manager of Hotel Jen Manila, added: “The rebrand is about changing our approach from the inside out to adapt to the rapidly changing needs of today’s ‘millennially minded’ travellers, which I believe should start at the very heart of our hotel – our staff. Our established team of loyal staff have spent the past few months embracing the Jen values: fun, friendly and fuss-free. “Hotel Jen Manila will still bring guests the same level of quality as before but now with a more intuitive service attitude and relaxed, friendly style.”

The first thing guests will notice as they enter the hotel is less formal staff uniforms. An informed and friendly service style continues by allowing guests to discover the best of where they are through unique recommendations, from unusual boutiques to trendy bars and restaurants in town. The Hotel Jen team will be a guest’s own personal local lifestyle guide, making them truly feel like they are staying with a friend.

Hotel Jen Manila’s 312 guestrooms and suites are among the largest in the bay area, with full-length windows offering awesome views of the famous Manila Bay and the boulevard. In guestrooms, guests will notice the extra touches from handwritten notes from staff to the re-useable ziplock amenities bag and, for VIPs and Golden Circle members, a cup of local, seasonal chopped fruit served with a bamboo skewer. All these extra touches offer guests what we describe as a simple pleasure.

Easy fuss-free efficiency is supported by a cutting-edge technology throughout the hotel; fast free WiFi available everywhere, always; mobile charging stations placed conveniently throughout the hotel to keep your devices on the go and the newly renovated coffee.com operating 24-hours a day, which provides an ideal place for small meetings or simply to enjoy a sip of good, fresh coffee.

Guest comfort and safety are an absolute priority and there will be no compromise on existing, high-quality standards.  For added convenience, the hotel features a vending machine with beverage and snackitems priced at convenience store levels and an ‘OnTheGo’ deli counter offering quick meal solutions.

Hotel Jen Manila is located on Roxas Boulevard. The international and domestic airports are only 20 minutes away, and 30 minutes to the Makati business district. The hotel is adjacent to the country’s premier conference and exhibition facilities – the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center and 10 minutes away from the SM Mall of Asia. Malate, the entertainment district of Manila City, is within walking distance of the hotel.

In the next phase of the Hotel Jen roll-out, Traders hotels in Maldives, Beijing, Shenyang and Johor Bahru will be rebranded from January to March 2015. Hotel Jen development projects are under consideration in key gateway cities in Asia Pacific, with plans to expand globally in the future.

CDO’s Whitewater Rafting: An Awesome Adventure

Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental is known to be the gateway for Northern Mindanao. From here, many places could be visited around. Bukidnon, Iligan, Camiguin are amongst its beautiful neighboring places. Yet, CDO offers one of the most fun adventure to experience in the country. Namely, the white water rafting. It is easy to book a schedule for this. Simply ask your reception for a number of the tour companies. Prices are almost all the same. Different levels are available for different people.

The fun begins with the cool camera guy/crew who takes photo of each passenger wearing their gears. Next is the briefing where you are taught what to expect and how to paddle. A short demo is the start of the ride. Learning how to ‘high-five’ is also important as it promotes teamwork.

There will be different challenges along the way. Paddling through the whitewater is fun and needs some physical toughness. Worry not, as your guides will take care of you. They always assure of your safety. If the challenge is greater, you will be covered. Just hold on.

Swimming is also part of the activity.  Jump from your raft to the clear water of Cagayan De Oro!

High fives remind you of the great teamwork that you displayed after the challenges.

Watch out for the snakes!  Part of the tour is coursing along snake areas.  Your guide will tell you if it is safe to dive on this part of water. Otherwise, most rocks are safe. You will also see corals and sea shells attached to some. This displays the depth of the water sometimes.

Jumping on a small cliff is also fun.  The guide will demonstrate proper jumping but you can always improvise 😉

It’s time for a shower.  Part of the course is going under this falls.  It is sort of a massage itself.

Bern (2)

Bern

I was able to visit Bern for only a day. Yet, I had a grasp of this town. Its an easy going, relax place in a township way.

For some cheaper eateries (because switzerland could be expensive), go to Markthalle. They have bread, swiss cheese, sandwiches of different sorts, drinks and a lot more snacks in a fast food style. You could eat it while standing or walking or by plastic tables.

Do walk around town looking for their amusing fountains. Take picture with each. The task of looking for each fountain is like an Amazing Race. While at it, fall in love with the Aare River that goes all over Switzerland. Then look above and you would see the breathtaking Alps. This view will forever live your memories.

Most people fly to this boarder of China for knock offs.  Well its not only faux name brands they have, one can also tour around the world with their miniature replicas of interesting places around the world.  This is called Windows of the world.  This is an amazing tour from Paris to Egypt to India.

The convention center during events is also a good place to check out.  This is especially to people in the China product trading business.  Further, they also have Chinese temples and gardens to visit.
